Transit Bill May Cost New York $1 Billion in Federal Aid

New York State could lose up to $1 billion in federal money if Congress passes a transportation bill being debated in the House this week, lawmakers say. The bill, which provides $284 billion over six years for federal highways, public transit and road safety projects nationwide, represents a 42 percent increase from the previous transportation spending package, which expired in 2003.
