Smoke Hampers Rescuers Searching for Two Inside West Virginia Mine

Thick smoke slowed rescue teams Friday as they searched deep inside a mine for two men separated from their crew after a fire broke out underground the previous night. Nineteen miners safely reached the surface after the conveyor belt fire, the authorities said, in the second major mine accident in West Virginia in less than three weeks.
