HIP's Return Is Seen as Boost For Downtown

The largest health care provider in New York City opened its new headquarters yesterday in Lower Manhattan, representing the biggest corporate relocation to the area since the Sept. 11 attack and signaling a vote of confidence in downtown's ability to bounce back. By opening the office space at 55 Water Street, HIP Health Plan of New York will bring 500 new jobs and relocate 2,000 existing jobs to the area, Gov. George E. Pataki said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the headquarters. The company received about $10.8 million in city and state funds to return to Lower Manhattan.
