City Proposes Shipping Trash Via West Side

New York City's commercial waste, much of which is now shipped through the Bronx and Brooklyn, will instead be directed to a marine transfer station on the West Side of Manhattan under a plan announced yesterday by the Bloomberg administration. The announcement is the first installment of a larger plan that Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will release next week detailing how the city intends to handle its trash over the next two decades now that Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island is closed. Just two weeks ago, the mayor detailed plans to commit to a comprehensive recycling program for the next 20 years.
